Cheapest 1M Coupé in NL is more expensive than M2

The cheapest BMW 1M Coupé in our country on Marktplaats costs more than the cheapest BMW M2 Coupé in our country on Marktplaats. So which one should you choose?

Sometimes the old generation is better than the new generation. At least, that’s what my parents always say. Perhaps they mean their own parents, with that statement. In this case, we are of course talking about cars. New cars are not always better. Or let’s put that another way: new cars are not necessarily more fun to drive.

This is due to legislation (safety & environment) and the constantly changing taste of the consumer (only seniors buy new cars and seniors want to sit high). Yes, you can build cars that only a petrolhead will buy (hello Honda NSX), but that won’t make the chimney smoke. But newer is not always euker.

Above the 40 thousand limit, not below it

In this case, we are talking about the BMW M2 Coupé. A few weeks ago, we were able to tell you that it had just dropped below the 40 grand mark. This means that the M2 is officially cheaper than its predecessor, the BMW 1M Coupé. To refresh your memory, that was a Long Beach Pearl M2 Coupé with manual transmission from 2016 with around 140,000 km.

For now we have the cheapest BMW 1M Coupé for you. Let’s get straight to the point, this one costs 42,950 euros. Then you are talking about a copy from 2012 with 162,509 km. A bit older and a few more kilometers.

According to editor-in-chief @michael, the color Alpinweiss III is the color you absolutely don’t want for this car, but yours truly disagrees.

Firstly because I have a 530d in exactly the same colour. Secondly because orange might get a bit tiring after a while and with black (the only other option) all the details that make the 1M special – disappear.

Especially those flared wheel arches are a feast for the eyes. The 1M is not beautiful in the traditional sense, but a deliciously fat Frankensteinmobile in the spirit of the M Coupé (you know, that clown shoe). In addition, Alpinweiss is a historically responsible color, you could also get it on the 2002 Turbo, M1 and other legendary BMWs.

In terms of options, you were always right with a 1M, most items were standard namely. The lumbar support was a cheap option, but is not present. There is a cup holder and the smoker’s package.

The latter is always convenient, not so much for smoking cigarettes but because of the extra plug and the lockable container. You also have a Harman Kardon audio system and the large navigation system.

So yes, now the choice is yours? What are you going to blow your 40 grand on? A BMW M2 (F87) or a BMW 1M (E82)? Or are you going to save 12 grand and buy the white Z4 sDrive35is from @machielvdd? The latter is the bargain of the century if you look at it that way. Interested? You can view the ad here!

As much as I am a fan of this 1M, I think I would still go for the M2. I don’t know exactly why, but I think it’s just a little bit thicker. And it could also be because, as a former owner of a 130i, I was terribly confronted with the facts when I went on a trip with the Car Whiz 130i for a week last year.

It really had become an outdated old car. And I’m afraid that’s the case with the 1M too…
