Curious help: Police spontaneously close the motorway

A desperate family man, a lost wallet and a helpful police force: this story is as touching as it is bizarre.

The police saved a family’s vacation – with an unusual action. However, the reason was also quite strange.

A desperate father from the Bayreuth district had called the police emergency number early on Sunday morning and stated that he had put his wallet and its contents on the roof of his car at the Irschenberg rest area after shopping.

Which was not a good idea, because with the wallet on the roof the man drove onto the A8 towards Salzburg.

It happened as it had to: A dull bang shortly after the end of the acceleration lane reminded him of his wallet. Since the wallet contained about 500 euros in cash for the upcoming vacation as well as all of his identification documents and his Driver’s license he called the emergency number at the nearest parking lot.

A short time later, a patrol crew from the Rosenheim traffic police station decided to go with the father of the family to search for the wallet.

For this purpose, the A8 motorway was completely closed from the Irschenberg junction for about ten minutes.

Spread over 1.5 kilometers

In a quick search, the police officers and the 33-year-old found all of the lost documents, as well as the driver’s license and cash. The items and the cash were scattered about 1.5 kilometers along the highway.

Overjoyed, the man was driven back to his vehicle with all of his belongings. His overjoyed family was already waiting there and the upcoming vacation trip to Italy could continue. The 33-year-old from the Bayreuth district thanked the police officers several times for their active support.
