Finally: Geely to Norway in 2025

Finally: Geely to Norway in 2025

Torbjørn Lie proudly shows off the EX5, which may come to Norway in the spring of 2025.

Starting with the folk SUV

Geely is the new car brand you can buy right away. And note the EX5 SUV that was unveiled in Frankfurt today. The first cars from the company behind Volvo and Polestar may be at a dealer near you before the winter tires come off.

Is there room for more car brands in Norway? Yes, thinks Gill Gruppen, which with brands such as Subaru and MG in the stable is preparing to introduce Geely in Norway.

– With the 4.61 meter long SUV EX5, launched in China in May this year and developed for global sales, Geely addresses a broad group of buyers, to the largest car class in Norway, explains Torbjørn Lie, who controls Geely at the importer.

Current two-wheel-drive competitors such as the VW ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, MG Marvel R, Peugeot 3008, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Explorer and BYD Seal U belong in this class, but Lie does not want to say anything else about where the EX5 ends up in terms of price price negotiations are ongoing.

The EX5 is built on a derivative version of the SEA platform which, among other things, underpins the EX30, Volvo’s best seller in Norway. The car comes with a 215 hp engine that drives the front wheels and is only available with the largest battery of 60.2 kWt.

Started in 2022

In the summer of 2022, Autoindustri in the Gill Group had entered into an agreement with Chinese Geely. Geely Geometry was about to become their next brand and a few examples of the Geometry C had arrived.

In the winter of 2023, the announcement came that the car brand would be launched before the summer and that there would be a good supply of cars. Then it was quiet, Geely did not get the car approved in Europe, and therefore postponed the brand launch. Until now.

But today it was ready for the big day when Geely not only unveiled the EX5, but also showed the breadth of its portfolio by exposing lesser-known brands in Norway such as Zeekr, Lynk & Co and Lotus.

After a cautious start in Sweden, Zeekr with the models X and 001, both built on the same technical platform as the Volvo EX30, was supposed to be launched in Norway last year. Only now are the first cars registered in Norway.

Lotus has so far only registered 41 copies of Eletre and one Emeya.

What will come to Europe after the EX5 is not yet clear, but Geely has several electric models on the Chinese market.
