Next setback for Verstappen
Formula 1: McLaren dominance in Monza

Another defeat for Max Verstappen: Lando Norris also takes pole in Monza.

Lando Norris continues his impressive series and is in the qualifying for the Italian GP (Sunday live from 3 p.m.) in Monza once again the man of the hour. After his pole position and victory in Zandvoort, the McLaren driver also secured pole position in Italy. While Norris is shining, Max Verstappen is in a form crisis, which is causing growing concern at Red Bull.

Lando Norris seems unbeatable at the moment. With his second pole position in a row, he makes it clear that the title fight is open again. In the speed temple of Monza, the McLaren star is certainly unstoppable. He leaves world championship leader Max Verstappen far behind, who ends up in a disappointing seventh place – almost seven tenths of a second slower than the McLaren star.

The alarm bells are now ringing at Red Bull. Verstappen has not won in five races and is increasingly losing his connection and patience. Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Helmut Marko is concerned after qualifying: “Something is not going according to plan here. The situation is becoming increasingly critical.”

On the starting grid, Verstappen not only has to admit defeat to the two McLarens, but also to George Russell in the Mercedes and Charles Leclerc in Ferrariwho secured the second row of the grid. Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton followed behind, before Verstappen started the race in seventh place. Nico Hülkenberg in the Haas rounded off the top ten.

Suspense and drama in Monza

Qualifying ended disappointingly for Williams newcomer Franco Colapinto. The Argentinian, who replaced the dismissed Logan Sargeant steps in and doesn’t get past 18th place.
