Immortal sports car celebrates with cool paint color

Is 1964 already that long ago? Yes, it was that long ago that we saw the very first version of this famous sports car. Now with a cool color and perhaps even cooler counters.

We all know Ford’s strategy that came somewhat out of the blue: while every brand was preparing itself somewhat for the fact that crossovers are becoming increasingly popular, Ford started phasing out all their cars. To the point that Ford no longer sells any cars. In the US, the Focus, Taurus and Fusion were the victims, in Europe the Fiesta and Focus are now also retiring. In our country, only SUVs remain and in the US a selection of SUVs and pickup trucks.

Mustang

One car escapes the dance. And it’s actually a miracle that it’s still around, partly due to the fact that competitors Dodge and Chevrolet have either stopped in this segment or are now building an electric equivalent. Ford, however, still builds it: the Mustang. Ford’s original pony car turned the world upside down in 1964 and has survived the harsh modern world after a tumultuous life spanning seven generations. And, although there is a Mustang SUV, it’s not a weakling: the latest ‘S650’ is still available with a V8, including a slushy Dark Horse version and even with the most powerful Mustang we might ever see: the GTD. That fairy tale will continue for a while.

Anniversary Package

Ford is upping the ante this year with the Anniversary Package for the Mustang. This means you can get a limited edition Mustang with the 60th Anniversary Package for this year. Hurry: only 1,965 will be made, which sounds like Ford got a year off when we tell you the Mustang hit the scene in 1964. Don’t worry: that was for the 1965 model year. After all, we’re already in the 2025 U.S. model year. That will mark 60 years since Ford introduced the Mustang.

Brittany Blue

The big news according to Ford is that a popular color for the Mustang is returning for the Anniversary: Brittany Blue. The light blue color debuted in 1967 with the Shelby GT 500. The Mustang was subsequently given the color occasionally throughout its lifespan, including a return to the previous generation and its fierce Shelby GT500.

Specialties

In itself a cool color, that Brittany Blue, but the rest of the special things make the Anniversary Edition really cool. For example, you get special rims that at first look a bit like the ‘Heritage’ rims of Porsche, but of course are a tribute to the five-spoke rims of the original Mustang.

Of course, Ford has also sprinkled special badges on the Mustang Anniversary Edition. For example, the ‘5.0’ badges on the sides and the GT badge on the back are in red, as are the Mustang logos in the rims. And of course a numbered badge on the dashboard.

And because cars used to have a lot of chrome or gray accents, Ford has made the mirrors and air intakes in a kind of metallic silver. For a little more class. The only thing missing are the racing stripes, although that might come with the Shelby version.

Counters

Finally, Ford gratefully uses the digital world for the Mustang Anniversary Edition. The S650 has a digital counter that can already show different displays. For the Anniversary Edition, you get two new options. The retro display below, for example, based on the wonderful old counters of the first Mustang.

Ford does not forget the other generations of Mustang and you can also set it as below. These counters are based on those of the ‘SN95’, the fourth generation Mustang. During the day you have bright white counters with a nice ’90s font, at night they become black with bright blue text.

The Mustang is plodding along nicely and since Ford has said several times that the S650 will be around for a while and that the successor will definitely not be electric, it is a perseverer. Now with cool extra options.
