It took Lego master David Gustafsson almost four years to build a Lego replica of his own white Volvo V70 from Lego pieces he won through the TV4 program Lego Masters. 380,000 pieces were used.
– I won sick amounts of Lego pieces, and to get rid of everything I thought I would build my own car out of Lego, David Gustafsson has previously told.
– Now I have two V70s after four years of work, says David Gustafsson in the video.
– It is so insanely difficult and requires so much dedication and talent that it is hard to grasp, says Magnus Göransson, who is the program manager for Lego Masters.
No, it’s not the world’s first real Lego car
Youtube profile Mauri Hermundsson calls the Lego build the world’s first real Lego car, but that’s not true. We previously told you about a Bugatti Chiron built from a million Lego pieces that weighs 1.5 tons and is powered by 2,304 Lego Technic motors.
David Gustafsson’s DIY construction is almost uncompromising. But the rims could not be built in Lego. Instead, he has the same aftermarket rims as on his original V70.
Chipboard is used to reinforce the chassis and a metal frame holds the body together.
The Lego car is said to cost around one million kroner to build and is powered by a simpler electric motor that allows the car to be driven at 5 km/h on a flat surface. It must not lean too much.
– We need help, says Gustafsson when the car is going up a small hill.
In the video, the Lego car is driven to a drive-in restaurant and an inspection station.
– It’s probably the most uncomfortable car I’ve inspected, says the inspector after trying out the seats, which are of course made of hard Lego pieces.
