New Audi Q5, with focus on PHEV in the Netherlands

This is the brand new and third generation Audi Q5.

After two successful previous generations, Audi wants to continue this chapter with the third generation Q5. The premium SUV of the brand from Ingolstadt is based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) and will focus on plug-in hybrid models, especially in the Netherlands.

Exterior

Both the exterior and the interior of the SUV have had a nice makeover. Modern enough to last a few more years. You can recognize the third generation by the wide Singleframe grille with air curtains on both sides. The lunch inlets are larger and there is now a continuous light strip at the rear. The Q5 comes standard with 17 inch footwear, this can optionally be upgraded to a maximum of 21 inches.

Interior

The interior of the third-generation Audi Q5 features a 14.5-inch Audi MMI OLED Display, with an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit for the driver. A third 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger is optionally available. A fourth screen? That’s also possible, but you’ll need to order the optional head-up display. The infotainment system runs on Android Automotive OS. The Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System (685 Watt) with 16 speakers and Vehicle Noise Compensation is also optional.

The new Q5 is the most practical yet, says Audi. Up to 1,473 liters of luggage space is available. USB-C connections can be found both in the front and rear with a charging capacity of up to 100 W. Audi has opted for soft materials in the interior to increase the cuddliness. The windshield is equipped with sound-absorbing material for more silence on board.

Tricks

What we are seeing more and more in Audis is advanced lighting technology. The third-generation Audi Q5 can display notifications in the rear lights for other drivers on the road.

Think of a warning function for approaching too close to the car, or warning of an accident further down the road. This is part of communication between car and car and the infrastructure (car-to-X) around it.

Engines

Audi Netherlands is not yet releasing much about the engines, except that the focus will be on plug-in hybrid. The German car brand is communicating internationally that three engines will be coming to the Q5 with the market launch. These are all MHEVs, coupled to a 7-speed S tronic automatic.

The Q5 comes standard on a chassis with steel springs. A sports chassis is optional. The entry-level engine is the 2.0 TFSI with 204 hp and 340 Nm of torque. This is optionally available with quattro. In addition, there is a 2.0 TDI with 204 hp, 400 Nm and always has quattro. The provisional top model is the 3.0 TFSI V6 SQ5 with 367 hp and 550 Nm of torque.

With that, Audi is not yet revealing anything about plug-in hybrid models, except that they are coming. From mid-next year, the third generation Audi Q5 will appear in the Netherlands, as a PHEV. More information about the engines, specs and prices will follow at the end of this year, Audi expects.
