Overwhelming winner: Volvo crushes the sibling models

In terms of sales, the Volvo EX30 runs in circles around its sibling models that are based on the same technology.

Last year, three similar electric car models that were all based on the same technical basis began to be sold in Sweden. It is about Volvo EX30, Zeekr X and Smart #1.

The models share several technical details with each other. But in terms of design, they are quite different. A clear difference is, for example, that the Volvo lacks instruments in front of the driver – something that the other models have.

The dealer model also differs. Official “agent”, as it is called, for Smart is Hedin Bil. Zeekr is sold online or in the brand’s own showrooms in Gothenburg and Stockholm, while Volvo has access to 139 sales points around Sweden.

In terms of sales, there is no doubt which of the sibling models “won”. Only 37 examples of the Smart #1 and coupe version #3, and 62 examples of the Zeekr X, have been registered since January 2023.

Zeekr has had somewhat greater success with the more expensive Zeekr 001 model. But as it stands now, 64 copies of the Volvo EX30 have been registered for each Zeekr X, and 108 copies of the EX30 for each Smart.

However, it remains to be seen if Volvo manages to keep EX30 sales up. Prices have risen since launch and new registrations per month have slowed significantly since the record month in May, according to figures from the site Car.info.
