Renault Korea Aurora 1 emphasizes ADAS as a ‘safe SUV’

Renault Korea’s Aurora 1 project’s new vehicle, a hybrid mid-size SUV, will be equipped with the latest ADAS equipment as standard. Renault Korea’s mid-size SUV, which will be called QM7 or Grand KOLEOS, is scheduled to compete with Hyundai Motor Company’s Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, and is a new car that emphasizes safety based on the CMA platform.

Renault Korea will unveil the actual Aurora 1 (project name) vehicle at the 2024 Busan Mobility Show held in Busan in June, and begin shipping as early as August. Aurora 1 will not only be introduced in Korea, but will also target overseas markets such as Europe. After localization, we started exporting, and the ratio of domestic demand and export is 50:50.

Renault Korea’s Busan factory is equipped with modernized facilities capable of producing 300,000 Kepa units per year, and is used to produce a mix of Arcana, QM6, SM6, and Aurora 1. In addition, one production line will be remodeled to produce Polestar 4, a premium coupe-type SUV electric vehicle to be produced domestically from 2025.

Aurora 1 is a mid-size SUV designed based on the CMA platform jointly developed by Volvo and Geely. The expected body size is 4770mm in length, 1895mm in width, and 2845mm wheelbase, similar to the new Santa Fe (4830mm, 2815mm) or the new Sorento (4815mm, 2815mm), but it will be released as a two-row, five-seater midsize SUV.

Aurora 1 emphasizes safety and convenience by applying the latest ADAS system as standard to all trims. ADAS systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure prevention, forward collision prevention, and driver attention monitor are applied starting from the entry trim, so all consumers experience the same safety specifications.
