Renault Korea Aurora 1, gasoline version launched after hybrid

Renault Korea’s mid-size SUV, Aurora 1 (project name), will launch a gasoline model as early as the fourth quarter after the launch of the hybrid. Aurora 1, which will be unveiled at the 2024 Busan Mobility Show held on the 27th, is a new car that will compete with mid-size SUVs such as Santa Fe and Sorento in Korea and emphasizes safety through the CMA platform.

Renault Korea Aurora 1, which will be showcased at the 2024 Busan Mobility Show, will be unveiled at the end of June, and the hybrid model is scheduled to be shipped starting in August. After the launch of the Aurora 1 Hybrid, Renault Korea strengthened its model lineup by adding a gasoline turbo-based internal combustion engine model in the fourth quarter. Aurora 1 will also be exported overseas.

Geely Xingyu L, the base model of Aurora 1, is equipped with energy matrix LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, pulse matrix tail lamps, side mirrors with turn signals, and up to 20-inch wheels. In addition, safety has been improved through the latest ADAS systems such as adaptive cruise control and lane maintenance assistance.

The hybrid model delivers a combined output of 245 horsepower through a hybrid drivetrain that combines a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine and an electric motor. The engine alone produces 150 horsepower, and the electric motor produces 100 kW (136 horsepower), allowing acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. A hybrid-specific 3-speed transmission is included in the drivetrain.

The high-spec internal combustion engine model combines a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine (2.0TD-T5) with an 8-speed automatic transmission to produce a maximum output of 241 horsepower and a maximum torque of 35.7kgm. The low-spec model is a combination of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine (2.0TD-T4) and a 7-speed DCT, producing a maximum output of 221 horsepower and a maximum torque of 33.1kgm.

The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) specification, which is unlikely to be released domestically, combines a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine, a 107kW (145 horsepower) electric motor, and a 41.2kWh battery pack on the bottom of the body. The electric driving range is 205 km. It operates as a range extender electric vehicle along with a hybrid.
