BMW has had quite a few shades of yellow over the years, so today we’re diving into the world of yellow BMWs.
The average BMW is not so excitingly colored. This is also proven by the Car Whiz Garage, which usually consists of white and black BMWs. Yet there are certainly BMWs with cool colors. For example, a bright yellow BMW M8 was spotted this week. That’s a good reason to take a look at yellow BMWs.
Over the years, BMW has had quite a few different shades of yellow in its color palette. Of course, these were reserved for the sporty models. We will visit them using spotlights. To keep it interesting, we look as much as possible at cars for which the color was NOT supplied as standard.
Dakar Yellow
Spotter: @MLTB
We start with an iconic color: Dakar Gelb. We know this color from the E36, but it also looks very cool on an E92 M3. This Individually designed example proves this. Although there are also people who see a yellow car that has been left in the sun for too long.
Austin Yellow
Spotter: @justawheelchairguy
Austin Yellow is a golden shade of yellow that we see quite often. This was the introductory color of the F82 M4 and this color was also available on the M3 of that generation. However, this color is not available on other models, so on this M2 Competition it is an Individual color. If it is indeed an original color. We know that one M2 was delivered in Austin Yellow anyway, because mattress king Michael Fux had one.
Speed Yellow
Spotter: @spotcrewda
When you think of Speed Yellow you think of Porsche, but BMW also supplies Speed Yellow as an Individual color. Carrying out a large BMW in such a color is daring, but let’s face it: it looks damn good on the M8.
Phoenix Yellow
Spotter: @tintin
This color should of course not be missing: Phoenix Yellow. Known from the E46, but also supplied on the first generation Z4. Since Phoenix Yellow is rarer on a Z4, we choose the latter. With a Z4 Coupé in this color you have a real eye-catcher.
Sao Paulo Yellow
Spotter: @spotcrewda
After the first generation M4, the second generation M4 was also introduced in yellow. For this occasion, BMW’s paint mixers had created a new shade: São Paulo Yellow. This color subsequently also found its way to the X3 M and the X4 M. This makes you stand out among all the other SUVs.
Mandarin II
Spotter: @supercarspotternl
A tangerine is usually orange, but the color Mandarin still looks suspiciously like yellow. So we will simply include them in this list. Apparently there was also a Mandarin I, but we know Mandarin II from the M4 30 Jahre Edition. With that car, BMW celebrated the 30th anniversary of the M4… er… M3 Convertible.
Atacama Yellow
Spotter: @tsjiekoofficial
This is the color that the undersigned would have liked to have on his Z4, but hey, just find one… This color – named after a Chilean desert – was available as standard on the Z4, but most owners still opted for a safe color . A shame, because a roadster can have a striking color.
Have you also spotted a yellow BMW (or something else)? Then we would love to see your photos appear on Car Whiz Spots!

The warmer yellow tones appeal to me the most, without the greenish element like that of São Paulo Yellow.

Speed yellow really stands out in this list. The not-so-orange color of the last few also has something to it, but just go for really orange
