This is the convertible with the highest mileage on Marktplaats

This SLK is no longer factory new, but that is not surprising when you see the mileage.

When you think of cars with high mileage, you think of a Volvo station wagon or a Mercedes sedan, but not a convertible. That is a car that you only drive occasionally. That’s why we jokingly took a look at the convertible with the highest mileage.

We found it: it’s a Mercedes SLK. A Mercedes with a lot of kilometers is of course not surprising, but 415,000 km on an SLK is still quite a lot. Fun fact: Mercedes has also supplied an SLK diesel for frequent drivers, but that was only with the third generation (the R172, for the experts).

Yet with this first-generation SLK you don’t have to fill up with expensive petrol. To make the many kilometers a bit affordable, an LPG tank has been installed. This is an SLK 230, with a 193 hp four-cylinder. That was simply the top version in 1997 – the year this car was built. The SLK with V6 only came in 2000.

This SLK has not covered all its kilometers in the Netherlands – the car was imported in 2007 – but it has covered the vast majority. In 2011 there was only a hundred thousand miles on the clock and the 200,000 km was only reached in 2018. The car has been well used in recent years.

Now the question: what is the car like after 415,000 km? You guessed it: it rusts. The photos show that the rust devil has struck at least around the sills. Unfortunately, we cannot see the condition of the interior, because the seller did not feel it necessary to share photos of it.

Despite the high mileage, it is not even the cheapest SLK on Marktplaats. Another €2,250 is being asked for it. There are various SLKs that cost less. Although they also have a respectable mileage, but not 415,000 km.

   Not for sale, our daily driver MX5 nc with 310,000 km. Does not rust and almost never has any malfunctions. The Netherlands is a great country for daily use of convertibles. Not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter. Yes, you can also drive open. jacket, tie, hat and seat heating.
