Volkswagen simply made a sedan version of the Passat, and it has now been leaked.
The Netherlands is no longer the station-loving country it once was, but a station wagon is still a lot more popular than a sedan. Not only in the Netherlands, because Volkswagen only builds the new Passat as a station wagon. At least, that’s what we thought.
Although @willeme showed a Passat sedan in January, it was not a real Passat. That was the Volkswagen Magotan. It is on the same platform, but this car has a different name and also a different design than the Passat.
Now, however, a Passat sedan has surfaced after all. In this case it actually says Passat on the butt and this car also has the same nose as the Passat station wagon. In other words: this is the new Passat sedan.
As you can see from the Chinese characters on the trunk, these photos come from China. The style of photography may seem familiar to you by now, because these are once again leaked patent photos. The Chinese government is always kind enough to publish photos before the unveiling.
The Passat Sedan is therefore intended for China and will most likely remain that way. In Europe, the traditional D-segment sedan is unfortunately doomed, except for the premium models. The Mazda 6 is actually the last of the Mohicans in this segment. And maybe the Volvo S60, although it comes close to premium.
