Update to Android Auto: Voice assistant now with a more modern design

Google is rolling out a revised design for the voice assistant in Android Auto, which will especially benefit those who use a lot of apps.

The end of the Assistant is a done deal at Google and a successor is already in the starting blocks. We are talking about the in-house AI Google Geminiwhich will not only take over the tasks of the voice assistant on Android smartphones and tablets, but according to recent information will also be available on other devices such as headphones.

In the long term, the search engine operator’s artificial intelligence should also make it into Android Auto and make the vehicles significantly smarter. But before that happens, Google is continuing to work on the voice assistant and is giving it a new design, at least in Android Auto.

Extensive design changes

At least that is what 9to5Google reports, citing observations in a test with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from Samsung and Android Auto version 12.5. During a conversation with the voice assistant in the navigation app, the system suddenly displayed an animated circle instead of the bar that covers the taskbar. The US company is not only changing the design, but also improving the convenience of using the Google Assistant. The circular animation is located above the taskbar and thus enables manual switching to the apps stored there even during voice input.

Test or done deal?

It is currently impossible to say how widespread the new display is. Google usually rolls out such changes gradually over several weeks. Unless it is a limited test, it should not be too long before all users can enjoy the new design.
