Volvo accelerates and brakes – new elastic car, shooting at battery factory

Volvo launches an electric truck with a range of 60 miles at the same time as they are forced to put the brakes on plans for a battery factory in Mariestad.

The transition to electric operation is going slower than Volvo Trucks had previously anticipated. Two years ago grandiose plans to build a large battery factory in Mariestad were presented.

Now the factory plans are slowed down. The goal that the factory will be completed in 2028 and reach full production in 2030 is postponed to the future.

– We will review the timetable. We have to match the start of production with demand. It is not increasing as we would like, says Jörgen Gustafsson, communications manager for the Mariestad project, to Mariestads-Tidningen.

Volvo FH Electric Long Range comes 60 miles

At the same time, product development is steadily progressing. Long hauls are the Achilles heel of electric trucks and now Volvo Trucks is revealing its first answer to the challenge – a Volvo FH Electric with a large battery. The range is stated to be 600 kilometers.
