Newly designed exterior and heavily updated interior, but under the skin the changes are small. Too small?
The XC90 will account for a large part of Volvo’s income and sales for a long time to come. Therefore, the XC90 is being modernized with a new facelift that is more extensive than the previous one.
Both front and rear have been updated to more closely resemble Volvo’s electric cars. What is most noticeable is a wider front.
The interior has also received an update to look more modern and luxurious, with more storage compartments in the center console and good placement for mobile phone charging.
The fabrics for the upholstery are the same as in the EX90 with either a bio-based “faux leather” or wool fabric.
But even more important is of course the new larger 11.2″ surface-mounted screen, with the same infotainment system with Google – as in, for example, the EX90.
You can choose between five, six or seven seats and there is heating front and back, ventilation and massage in the front. Just like with the EX90 – with the difference that there is no ventilation in the seats of the first cars.
The noise level should have been reduced thanks to laminated windows and foam-filled A and B pillars. The wheel suspensions are also updated with double wishbones at the front, a stabilizing link at the rear and improved shock absorption. Air suspension is available as optional equipment
But what about the powertrain? It is largely unchanged, with either the T8 plug-in hybrid or a B5 mild hybrid.
This means that the T8 has 455 hp and the same battery as before at 18.8 kWh and with an electric range of about 70 km. AC charging is, as before, very slow, at 3.2 kW on single-phase charging. They state a consumption of 8.6 l/100 km when the battery is discharged. As before, 0-100 km/h should go in 5.4 seconds.
As before, the B5 is a mild hybrid with 250 hp, WLTP consumption 8.5 l/100 km and 0-100 km/h should take 7.7 seconds.
Production starts already this year and the car can be ordered already now.
