While the second Amarok rolls off the production line in Europe, the first model in Argentina is being given a facelift after 14 years. What’s new and what’s been left behind?

Since the beginning of 2023, the second generation of the VW Touran offered. And in South America a facelift has now been presented – but of the first generation! This is now 14 years old and is now to be refreshed in Argentina. The new old Amarok will come onto the market in 2025.

And of course it still has all-wheel drive and a four- and six-cylinder diesel engine. The four-cylinder has a displacement of two liters, while the V6 has a displacement of three liters. The latter also produces 258 hp and a maximum torque of 590 Nm!

Visually, a lot of work has been done – but that is necessary if you want to bring such an old model up to date with the latest design. To achieve this, the headlights are now in a sleeker format and the Amarok now has, like the new Skoda Superb, T-Roc and electric ID.7, via an LED strip on the front.

Great similarity to the small VW Saveiro

In general, the front is reminiscent of the smaller VW Saveirowhich has been built in South America since 1982 and also received a facelift in 2024. The body shape was changed VW Nothing for the facelift, but the Amarok has grown by 96 millimeters and now measures 5350 millimeters.

The interior is rather simple, but it is precisely this concept that makes the Amarok so robust and confident.

The interior of the pickup truck has remained true to its robust lines. The highlight is a nine-inch display. The VW also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but that’s where the technical gimmicks end. But it’s precisely this strategy that makes the Amarok so robust and popular.

And the popularity of the Amarok should not be underestimated, because not only is South America one of the largest and most important markets for VW’s pick-up, but next to the Taos, the Amarok is the most popular VW model on the continent.
