Formula 1 Result: Lewis Hamilton wins 2024 British Grand Prix!!1!

Max from P4, but with a repaired floor. That will be a piece of cake against the Brits in Mercs and Maccas in the 2024 English Grand Prix, right?

The first F1 race ever took place 74 years ago at Silverstone. So it is the traditional circuit of traditional circuits. And also a pretty cool track, which is of course even more important. Because of the motorsport-crazy British fans, it is a full house every year. And that means in this case, about 200,000 people and a horse’s head.

In qualifying, the fans got what they wanted. Or at least, that’s what you think. Three Brits took the first three places. Mercedes has the entire front row for the first time since Interlagos 2022. Russell is, as usual this year, ahead of Hamilton. Norris is in P3. Max broke his floor early in the wet qualifying and therefore has to make do with P4. But of course the Dutchman is going to win today! Right?

Start

Russell keeps P1 and Hamilton P2. Verstappen pushes Norris, but he seems to keep P3. Until the clumsy first slow kinks. Norris is raking a bit there and Verstappen goes around the outside to P3. Piastri closes in, but Hülkenberg loses his nice sixth starting position. He shoots off the track and eventually falls back to P9.

The Hülk also causes problems for Williams, because the two drivers in blue touch each other slightly. Gasly is already out. The Frenchman had almost everything changed on his Alpine so he started at the back. But those new parts, not all worked.

Mid Race

With rain in the air, Max seems to be biding his time until he can attack the Mercs. But on lap fifteen, he is overtaken by Norris! Two laps later, Piastri also passes. The Bulli is not doing well now that it seems to be raining a bit harder. Lewis Hamilton on the other hand is. He passes teammate Russell for P1!

Both Mercs then fly off the track. It’s a bit like Ferrari Malaysia 2001. Russell just gets back on track before Norris. But NOR easily passes. The McLarens are now the fastest cars on the track anyway. Norris goes to P1 past Hamilton and Piastri overtakes Russell. Then PIA also passes Hamilton. The Ozzie seems to be even faster than his teammate who is leading the race.

Leclerc and Perez are then pitted for inters. But the expectation is that the rain will ease. And the pace is already being increased. Verstappen is still not feeling well. He falls back a few seconds behind Russell and sees Sainz coming closer.

Bigger shower

The British summer continues with a bigger shower. Verstappen Sainz are the first of the top 6 to come in for inters. That is the right decision. Norris, Hamilton and Russell come in a lap later, but Piastri drives on. That is a bad decision. Norris catches up with his teammate on the same lap. It is a loss of about 18 seconds for PIA.

Verstappen is back in the race thanks to his well-timed stop. If Russell drops out, he is now third thanks to PIA’s poorly timed stop. The difference with number two Hamilton is considerable and will only get greater. Max does not have the pace.

Finish

At least until the lake dries up. Then Max puts a hard screw under it and the Red Bull suddenly comes to life. Verstappen overtakes Norris and can then hunt down the man who knocked him off in Copse in 2021. He is on softs and that is the lesser tire at the moment it seems.

But Hamilton has enough left. He wins his ninth British Grand Prix (!). It is Hamilton’s first victory after the almost title-winning season of 2021. After that, the Briton, who previously won at least one race every year, had a hard time with mediocre Mercs. But today he is a winner again. To the delight of the delirious crowd.

Verstappen is second and Norris third. Piastri fourth and Sainz fifth. Hulkenberg drags the Haas to P6 and the two Astons are finally together in the top 10 again in P7 and P8. Albonio and Tsunoda complete the points scores. An audibly emotional Lewis cheers another lap around the circuit. British street party?

The next one is now ‘not until’ two weeks from now, in Hungary.

   What a wonderful race!
   Lewis deserved to win, no doubt about it!
   If I were Brown and Stella I would first make sure McLaren got their act together before bashing other teams. What a bad race this was for them.

   Great result! Went well Max’s way. Race should have lasted three laps longer, he could have won it too! But fine, nice for hammie!
