The Polestar Concept BST is for people who love fast Volvos.
Funny how a certain badge of a brand can grow into its own brand. Cupra is on its way to becoming more successful than Seat, for example, and DS Automobiles is distancing itself further and further from Citroën.
The most famous example is of course Polestar, because it started out as a racing team and later fast Polestar-Volvos came. Nowadays Polestar is a manufacturer of electric cars.
So what was once a ‘fast badge’ is now a brand. What if you have a fast version of that? Well, they have a solution for that: BST. The Polestar 2 BST did get beyond the concept stage, but with ‘only’ a run of 270 + 230 units. That was a vision of an extra fat ‘2’. Now here is the Polestar Concept BST.
Polestar Concept BST
The basis is the Polestar 6, the brand’s first convertible. It has yet to hit the market, as it is scheduled for 2026. This is the extra thick version in any case. You can see that from the deeper splitter, various ventilation openings and a huge giga spoiler.
What’s really cool – and we mean it – is that Polestar went to the trouble of widening the wheel arches. Carmakers often skip this with EVs: wider arches (plus wider wheels to fill them) improve looks and handling, but are bad for range. The Polestar Concept BST is nice and fat.
That’s why the Audi RS e-tron GT doesn’t look any sportier than the regular one. At the front, the wheel arches seem to be a little flared, but at the back, they’re much wider. Nice.
Production plans?
The wheels themselves are 22 inch pattas. So in terms of proportions it looks like a car that is somewhere between an Elise and a BMW i8 in size, but secretly the Polestar Concept BST is a size bigger.
As you might expect, the Polestar Concept BST makes its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. With the Polestar 6, the Chinese Swedes will be doing the famous hill climb. In addition, you can also see the Polestar 2, 3 and 4 there. There are no production plans for the BST yet. According to Ingentlath – the honcho – the car should indicate which way BST is going. We are very curious!
