Wow! Prince Bernhard smokes the tires of a DeLorean V8

How nice it must be to be a prince, especially when your first name is Bernhard. Then you have a DeLorean with a V8 at your disposal. He does!

Being a prince has its advantages and disadvantages. The annoying thing is that everyone has an opinion about you, especially if you are -like Bernhard- rather ‘High Profile’. And that opinion is rarely positive, because you are a Dutch prince and the Dutch are champions in complaining. Especially if someone has more than we do.

But on the other hand, it must be wonderful to be able to use the title of prince. And especially if your first name is Bernhard. Because then you’ve got it all together, especially if you’re a petrolhead. And he just happens to be that. And he makes good use of it. And rightly so Bernhard, we would do exactly the same!

Prince Bernhard drifts in a DeLorean V8

Besides the battery of wonderful cars that Bernhard has had under his royal ass, he is also the owner of the Netherlands’ only Formula 1 circuit, he helped his son with a nice project and he has a DeLorean. With a V8!!! And he makes good use of it!

Before we get to the video where we can see our prince smoking the rear tires of the DeLorean, we have to go to that car first. That is quite a special case. It actually has little to do with a DeLorean, because it has become a thoroughbred racer.

Bas Koeten Racing is the company that tackled the car so brilliantly for Bernhard. The 2.7 PRV V6 with 130 hp that was in the back was thrown in the trash. Fine, that’s where those blocks belong. Bas Koeten has spooned a BMW V8 with supercharger into the front. In the front indeed, they moved it! And you can drift with it just fine, because it delivers 650 hp. Nice!!

Furthermore, the DeLorean V8 has a new chassis, a limited slip differential has been installed so that it can actually be drifted. And much more has been done. Well, actually we can better say that Bernhard is tearing around in a modified BMW with DeLorean bodywork. And he is doing it nicely!

And as so often, it is also true now; a video says more than 1000 words, so let’s quickly see what it looks like when our prince Bernhard mercilessly gives a DeLorean with a V8 a good kicking. We don’t say it often here, but we are still a little jealous!

…in the forecastle? Or just in the back?

No, no, it’s in the front! So it’s moved!

No, it’s in the front. The thing is built entirely on a BMW chassis. The DeLorean body is built around it. So it’s probably a BMW on paper, if the thing is even street legal of course
