Renewed Hyundai IONIQ 5: larger battery and now also as N Line

The updated Hyundai IONIQ 5 brings a number of important improvements.

With such a progressive appearance, you don’t need much polishing. Yet the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been updated. A few appearance adjustments. The electric car has been improved, particularly on a technical level. The brand is also introducing an N Line for the IONIQ 5.

Most important adjustments

You can’t call it a huge facelift. The bumpers and rear spoiler (50 mm wider) have been slightly adjusted and the IONIQ 5 has even become 20 mm longer. The observant IONIQ 5 driver will probably notice that there is now a windshield wiper on the rear window. That was not the case on the outgoing model.

The motor on the rear axle has better insulation so that the interior is quieter.

N Line

If you really want to stand out, you should choose the N Line. This new version makes the IONIQ 5 a bit thicker with different bumpers, 20-inch wheels and the necessary badges. The looks, not the power. The AMG and M package from the Koreans. The N Line also has sports seats in the interior, with red and black stitching. The steering wheel is also different.

In the interior, Hyundai follows the example of other brands with the updated IONIQ 5. The trend of cramming everything into one screen is -fortunately- behind us. Car manufacturers are again making more use of physical buttons or opting for a smarter layout. So is Hyundai. No more scrolling through annoying menus to adjust the seat heating. This is now possible at the touch of a button. The system on which the infotainment runs has also been updated.

Larger battery

The real news is the increased battery capacity. More range is more better, after all. The outgoing model had a 77.4 kWh battery pack. That is now 84 kWh. Hyundai talks about an increased range, but unfortunately the brand does not communicate hard figures. So you have to believe their Korean eyes.

Don’t immediately run to the dealer to order ‘the new one’. The launch will not take place until later this year. From this month onwards, it will be the turn of the home market in Korea first.

Other markets will follow later in 2024. It has not been announced when it will be the Netherlands’ turn specifically. The car in the pictures is for the Korean market, it is expected that the updated model for us will hardly differ from this car.
