F1: Perez signs multi-year deal with Red Bull

Red Bull’s driver line-up looks set for at least the next two years. The driver, who is jokingly called “Mexico’s Minister of Defense” thanks to his ability to keep drivers behind him, extends.

In addition to Max Verstappen’s contract, which runs through the 2028 season, the energy drink team has now also secured Sergio “Checo” Perez for two more seasons.

The announcement was announced on Tuesday and means, among other things, that the speculation surrounding Daniel Ricciardo’s return to the top team must be put on hold.

– It is fantastic to be able to continue our journey together and contribute to the history of the team for another two years, says Sergio Perez, to F1.com.

– This year we have a big challenge ahead of us, but I have full confidence in the entire team and that the future looks bright, and I am determined to be part of this.

Continuity is key

– Continuity and stability are important to the team and both Checo and Max are a successful and robust duo, and secured our first first-two in the championship last year, says team boss, Christian Horner.

As mentioned, the contract extension puts an end to the speculation about a possible replacement, at least for now.

It is swaying for the reigning world champions Red Bull, who did not finish better than sixth last time in Monaco. And Max Verstappen’s future is uncertain despite his long contract. A sensational move to Mercedes has been talked about.

Recently it was announced that Esteban Ocon is leaving Alpine – what will be his destination, as well as who will be his replacement, remains to be seen.
