Messy year for Tesla

Messy year for Tesla

Compared to last year, Tesla is having a much harder time in terms of sales.

It’s a serious struggle for Elon Musk and his Tesla this year. With the lack of an innovative range, a downward trend in sales can be seen. At some point, everyone has an S, X, Y or 3 that is interested in it. With eternal price fluctuations alone, you won’t get there.

While other brands are renewing their ranges left and right, Tesla is sticking to the four well-known models. The Model Y is currently the most important model for the brand, but a facelift is still pending. In that respect, 2024 is a year to quickly forget for the American car brand.

Sell Tesla

Figures from JATO Dynamics for the first half of the year show that Tesla is losing market share in both the United States and Europe. In the US, the sales are down 8 percent. In Europe, the pain is even harder with a sales drop of 13 percent. Tesla sold 161,200 cars in the first 6 months of 2024, compared to 185,200 in the same period in 2023. There are no indications that the second half of the year looks brighter for Tesla.

On paper, Tesla still has excellent cars. The Model Y remains one of the most attractive crossovers for the money. You have access to a sublime Tesla charging network with attractive charging rates. However, the competition is fierce. Almost every month there seems to be a new competitor for Tesla. The other brands are slowly taking market share away from Tesla.

The Netherlands still a hit

In the Netherlands, Tesla remains hugely popular. Tesla was the best-selling brand in June 2024 in our country. The Model Y was number one as best-selling model and the Model 3 was in second place. The Dutch market, with its small numbers, is just a drop in the ocean.

All hope for Model Y facelift

It goes too far to talk about panic at Tesla. The brand is still doing okay and yes, compared to last year it all looks a bit less. Tesla is expected to launch the Model Y facelift next year. Knowing that this is the most important model of the brand, you can assume that 2025 will be an important sales year for the Americans. And then they might be able to leave the rest behind.

  1. JelmerS say

Last week I got a call from an ‘inside sales advisor’ to ask how I like the current Tesla and to discuss the offers (read SEPP subsidy outside Tesla) to purchase a new Tesla. It’s strange that Tesla has employees who have an old-fashioned telephone, too bad the line still appears to be one-way traffic

  2. left-hand drive say

If there is an update for the Y that will not make a difference either, just more choice now compared to a few years ago. A smaller Tesla could give sales a boost again
