It’s always funny how some brands have a completely different image when the product is different. A Hugo Boss shirt is fine, but you’d rather skip the sneakers. BMW’s image is also completely different. A BMW car is in many cases a bit wrong and attracts an above-average number of sjonnies. But when it comes to motorcycles, BMW is almost a kind of Saab. A brand for good Hendriks and Hendrika’s.
What is also striking is that despite being very expensive motorcycles, they sell like crazy. The BMW R1250RT is the only one in its class, which automatically forces the police to buy these bikes. But then again, they already did. Just like with cars, ‘crossovers’ are also popular among motorcycles.
At BMW, these have been the BMW GS motorcycles in general and the Adventure version in particular for many years.

So yes, the BMW GS Adventure is the most popular BMW in the Netherlands. Clickbait? You bet it is. However, we are going to spoil you with some nice motorcycle content, because the BMW R1300 GS Adventure is something! There is a good chance that your boss, father, uncle or neighbor has one (or wants one).
Technology
In technical terms, the most popular BMW M in our country is a real BMW. Where the cars are hardly available with a six-in-line and rear-wheel drive, the R1300GS Adventure is still very pure. That means a two-cylinder boxer engine and a cardan.
The engine has a displacement of exactly 1,300 cc. Despite more cylinder capacity, the engine is more compact. The maximum power is 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and the torque is 149 Nm at 4,950 rpm. This block always pulls, from every gear.
ASA
Speaking of gears, the transmission is located under the engine block. Also special about the transmission: ASA will be available after the summer. ASA stands for Automated Shift Assistant and it is in fact an automatic operation of the gearbox. Normally you would say: that is an automatic, isn’t it? That is correct, but in terms of concept it looks more like a robotized manual gearbox.
And not just on asphalt, but also off the beaten track. We doubt how often someone uses their BMW X3 to brave a dirt track, but in the case of the GS1300 Adventure you can assume that it happens every now and then. They are the ultimate road trip motorcycles. You can go anywhere with them.
Price BMW R 1300 GS Adventure
Then the price. It is steep: 26,950 euros. BMWs are never cheap, but that does not stop customers from trading in their favorite all-roader for a new one. The price seems somewhat manageable, but by ticking various options you can increase that price. You can already configure it, but they are still calculating the prices of the options.
Competition
We always look at the competition when it comes to cars, but that can also be done with motorcycles. And yes, there are cars that are (considerably) cheaper than these all-road motorcycles.

Compared to the competition it is not that bad. A fully loaded Japanese motorcycle costs a lot less and is at least as reliable. On the other hand, with some options you are already heading towards the niche brands.
In that respect, BMW has it all figured out: high prices, big margins and a line of customers waving their checkbooks.
