Rivian is an American electric vehicle brand that operates a diverse lineup, including the pickup truck R1T, SUV R1S, and the compact SUV R2 recently released to compete with Tesla Model Y. Rivian completed the registration of trademarks such as the Rivian emblem and R1T and R1S at the Korean Intellectual Property Office in 2021, but the release date is not yet determined.
The new R1T and R1S are the second generation and have upgraded core performance such as electric motors. The tri-motor equipped with three electric motors has a combined total output of 850 horsepower and a maximum torque of 152.5kgm, which is higher than the existing quad motor. The combined total output of the new R1T and R1S quad motors has increased to 1,025 horsepower and maximum torque to 165.6 kgm.
In particular, the new R1T accelerates from standstill to 96 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds, similar to the Lamborghini Huracan Evo. Tri-motor and quad motors secure driving range by blocking the rear-wheel motor depending on the driving situation. The driving distance for the new R1T and R1S on a single charge ranges from 415 to 675 km depending on the EPA standard trim.
The new R1T and R1S support ultra-fast charging, taking the battery from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes. A 20-minute charge can provide a driving range of 255 km. The new R1T and R1S have improved marketability, including a heat pump-based thermal management system, a new suspension with luxurious ride comfort, and up to 22-inch wheels.
The new R1T and R1S are equipped with the latest driver assistance system consisting of 11 cameras and 5 radars. The multi-mode sensor uses artificial intelligence to improve performance three times compared to before. The new R1T and R1S are equipped with a new headlamp lighting system and a speaker system including Dolby Atmos.
