That kept us awake for many nights. Yes, that iconic Lamborghini of course. The trinity is together again.

There are car films and car films. By this we mean that on the one hand there are cool films that feature cars, and on the one hand there are films in which cars are the center of attention. We can name a lot, such as Gone in 60 Seconds, The Fast and the Furious, Herbie, Taxi, Need for Speed and Brum De Film (no idea if it exists, but Brum was cool!).

One of the coolest is of course Cannonball Run. It was not only hilarious, but also filled to the brim with cool and special cars. It was a kind of carnal version of Wacky Racers, but that didn’t spoil the fun.

On the contrary. Now we’ve all seen the movie a hundred times (along with all parts of The Police Academy), but do you remember who the winners were? Well, we forgot about that too.

Iconic Lamborghini

Of course we have the answer for you: the Lamborghini Countach LP400S. Not entirely coincidentally, it is Lamborghini that informs us about this. The film debuted on June 19, 1981, so a quick math tells us that the film will be 45 years old tomorrow!

To celebrate this joyful occasion, the winners of the race were brought together, plus the iconic Lamborghini Countach, of course. The actresses are Adrienne Barbeau and Tara Buckman, who played the roles of Marcie and Jill, respectively. It is the first time that this iconic trinity is together again.

The Countach is not completely standard. We also did tuning in the ’80s. In this case there was a light bar at the front, lots of antennas and a huge battery of exhausts. Just like the Toyota GR Corolla and Audi S1, the Countach has 1 exhaust pipe per cylinder. Only the Lamborghini does not have a three- or four-cylinder engine, but a big V12!

Lois Hamilton was in it too!

After filming, the car was simply resold and ended up in Florida. The then owner decided to simply leave the modifications in place. Yes, it was a bit wrong, but it was also part of the film and that period. The current owner was absolutely in love with the film and couldn’t believe his eyes when he was able to buy it in 2009. Or, well, could buy it: the negotiations took 18 months!

The film was packed with celebrities participating in the race. Think of Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Sammy Davis Jr, Jackie Chan (in the Subaru!), Farrah Fawcet and Peter Fonda. Oh, and Lois Hamilton (not to be confused with Lewis Hamilton) was also in it as the girlfriend of Roger Moore’s character Seymour (just a James Bond parody of course).
