Volvo overtakes competitors – biggest increase in new registrations

In July, Volvo had the largest percentage increase in new registrations in Europe. All in all, the number of new passenger car registrations increased in Europe.

In July, the number of new passenger car registrations decreased in Sweden, but overall new car registrations actually increased slightly by 0.2 percent in Europe, new statistics from Acea show.

There were large variations between the different markets in Europe. New registrations in, for example, Italy and Spain increased by 4.7 percent and 3.4 percent respectively. However, the number of registered cars decreased in both France and Germany.

The Volkswagen Group had the most new registrations in July, but decreased by two percent compared to the same month the year before. Volvo Cars, on the other hand, increased its new car registrations by roughly 36 percent compared to the same period in 2023. So far this year, they have increased by roughly 38 percent and the trend from the first half of this year is continuing.

The percentage of new registrations of electric cars in July was 12.1 percent, which is a decrease of just over ten percent compared to the same period the year before. There, too, there were great contrasts. New registrations of electric cars in Belgium increased by 44 percent, while they decreased by 36.6 percent in Germany.

Despite an increase in Germany, new registrations of plug-in hybrids in Europe decreased by 14.1 percent compared to the previous year. The number of petrol cars decreased by seven percent, and diesel cars decreased by 10 percent.
