Tesla Model Y sales in Europe plummet dramatically

For a change, the Tesla Model Y has not had a top month in Europe. On the contrary.

The success of the Tesla Model Y seems to know no bounds. It was the best-selling car last year. Not only the best-selling car in EV-loving Netherlands, but the best-selling car in the world. That is an unprecedented achievement for an electric car.

Of course, if sales figures reach such heights, things can only go downhill. However, things are suddenly going very fast. Automotive News Europe has the preliminary figures from May and they show that the Model Y has fallen sharply in the European sales statistics.

In May last year, the Model Y was still at number 1, but now the Tesla is suddenly at number 18. With 10,852 copies sold, sales have almost halved compared to May 2023.

It was not the Netherlands’ fault, because in our country the Tesla Model Y was still at a respectable number 2 in May. In Scandinavia, however, Tesla saw deliveries of the Model Y collapse. The local strikes will probably have something to do with that. So we should not hastily conclude that suddenly no one wants a Model Y anymore.

You may want to know which cars did well in Europe. Volkswagen was the big winner, because the T-Roc was the biggest bestseller, closely followed by the Golf. The latter is making a comeback, as sales increased by 28% compared to May last year. So the facelift is turning out well.

This article is a little bit premature, because it concerns preliminary figures. However, this does include 96% of sales in Europe, so we can never be very far wrong.
