Volkswagen Transporter Hybrid revealed: Is it better than the Carnival?

Volkswagen unveiled the Transporter T7 on the 1st (local time). The Transporter T7 is the 7th generation full change and shares the platform/powertrain with the Ford minivan Transit. The Transporter T7 features an exterior that reflects Volkswagen’s latest design language and hybrid and electric powertrains. Domestic release is undecided.

The Transporter T7 is a multi-minivan that maximizes passenger comfort and cargo space utilization. The Transporter T7 is the 7th generation full-change and shares the platform and powertrain with the Ford minivan Transit Custom. However, the Transporter T7 is differentiated from the Transit Custom with a flat beltline and up to 19-inch wheels.

The Transporter T7 is 5050~540mm in length depending on the trim, and the wheelbase is 3100mm or 3500mm. The maximum payload is 1300kg, and the towing capacity is up to 2800kg. The Transporter T7 powertrain is operated as a turbo diesel, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicle. The diesel maximum output is 110~286 horsepower.

Only the diesel has an all-wheel drive option. The Transporter T7 plug-in hybrid is based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, producing a combined total output of 232 horsepower. The Transporter T7 electric vehicle is equipped with a 64 kWh battery. The range on a full charge has not been disclosed. The maximum electric motor output is 136 to 286 horsepower.

The exterior of the Transporter T7 reflects Volkswagen’s latest design language, including sharply designed headlamps and daytime running lights. The interior features a 12-inch digital instrument panel and a 13-inch display as standard. Options include the latest driver assistance system, matrix LED headlamps, and 3-ZONE air conditioning.
