Audi’s new RS3 is faster than the BMW M2 at the Nürburgring

Audi announced on the 22nd (local time) that the new RS3 has achieved a new record in the Nürburgring compact car category. The new RS3 is characterized by a high-performance 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine based on partial changes to the A3. Cornering performance has been improved with new brake torque vectoring. It will be released in the second half of this year.

The new RS3 is a high-performance model based on partial changes to the A3. The German Nürburgring lap time conducted with the new RS3 prototype was 7 minutes 33.123 seconds, setting a new record in the compact car category. In particular, it is more than 5 seconds faster than the BMW M2, which was the fastest record in the existing compact car segment. The new RS3 will be released in the third quarter of this year.

The new RS3 prototype used in the test was equipped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires and has the same specifications as the mass-produced car, including carbon ceramic brakes and adaptive suspension. The new RS3 is equipped with a signature 2.5-liter in-line 5-cylinder gasoline turbo engine, producing a maximum output of 401 horsepower.

Regarding the shortened lap time of the new RS3 Nürburgring, Audi said, “New brake torque vectoring has been applied to the new RS3. Thanks to this, optimized cornering has been implemented, and a more aggressive strategy is possible when entering a corner. “The steering angle has been reduced at Apex, the peak of the corner.”

Additionally, “Reduced steering angle means less friction and less scrub. This means that the speed is faster and you can accelerate more quickly when exiting a corner. “New software algorithms and a modular vehicle dynamics controller distribute torque more effectively.”
